Spelling Progress Starts Here

"Her spelling is atrocious!"
"He'll only write short sentences with short words."

Many bright, creative kids know exactly what they want to say, but spelling gets in the way.

Some read well and have strong memories, but still can't spell accurately.

Kids Up helps students understand how spelling works through sound, structure and meaning, so their writing can finally reflect their knowledge and creativity.

How the Kids Up Reading Tutors Program Teaches Kids to Understand Spelling

We teach spelling through sound, structure, and meaning—not memorization. Using Orton-Gillingham and the Science of Reading, students learn phonics patterns, morphology and spelling rules. That way, spelling becomes more predictable and less frustrating.

Kids gain tools they can use for every word they write, not just the words on this week's list.

"The biggest difference to me is how little I have to coach him (aka fight him) on writing a complete sentence any more."

How Online Spelling Intervention Works

Each session with your Kids Up tutor is personalized to your child's current spelling and writing needs. In 1:1 online lessons, we explicitly teach the links between sounds, letters, meaning and spelling rules using Orton-Gillingham and Structured Literacy methods.

Parents often tell us their children become more willing to write and finally proud to show what they can do!

Inside Your Child's Spelling Plan

Every student's plan is different, but many students with spelling challenges or dysgraphia need targeted work in:

Sound-symbol patterns

Connecting the sounds in words to the letters and patterns that represent them.

Spelling rules

Learning the rules that make English more predictable.

Morphology

Using prefixes, suffixes, roots, and word meaning to spell longer words

Writing confidence

Helping students write longer sentences without avoiding spelling.

As spelling becomes more predictable, students can use stronger words, write longer sentences, and share their ideas with more confidence.
