Orton-Gillingham is at the core of what we do. Kids Up combines OG with the broader Science of Reading and Structured Literacy framework, using the Kilpatrick program for phonological awareness and Orton-Gillingham for phonics, fluency, morphology and spelling rules. What that means in practice: before your child's first tutoring session, we do a thorough literacy evaluation to pinpoint which skills are solid and which still need work. Kids Up works with students in grades 1 through 12, and occasionally with college students who are still working through phonics, fluency or spelling gaps. The short answer: most Kids Up students reach grade level in 4 to 9 months. The longer answer depends on where your child is starting from, what your goals are, how often they meet with their tutor, and how quickly they pick up the material. Frequency matters a lot. Most of our students do sessions 3 to 4 times per week, which is what makes the timeline possible. Less frequent tutoring means slower progress. One thing worth knowing: spelling typically takes longer to close than reading.
