"Her spelling is atrocious!"
"He'll only write short sentences with short words."
Many bright, creative kids struggle to get their thoughts on paper. Sometimes the pencil grip is the problem; sometimes it's weak grammar or organizational skills.
If spelling's the problem, we can help.
Our evidence-based spelling tutoring helps kids and teens understand how spelling works - not just memorize words.
Kids who struggle with reading often have spelling difficulties too. But some students read well and still can't spell accurately. Many of these kids have strong memories - enough to recognize words when reading, but not enough to spell them correctly. That's where our structured spelling and dysgraphia tutoring makes the difference.
We help struggling spellers - whether or not they've been diagnosed with dysgraphia - build skills and confidence, so their writing finally reflects their knowledge and creativity.

"It's great to really see his growing confidence and less anxiety around his spelling!

How We Teach Kids to Understand Spelling
At Kids Up Reading Tutors, we teach spelling through sound, structure, and meaning—not memorization. Our approach combines Orton-Gillingham and the Science of Reading to help kids understand why words are spelled the way they are. This makes spelling predictable instead of frustrating.
Kids gain skills they can use for every word they write—not just the ones on their list.
"The biggest difference to me is how little I have to coach him (aka fight him) on writing a complete sentence any more."

What to Expect in a Spelling/Dysgraphia Tutoring Session
Each session is personalized and built around your child’s current reading and spelling skills.
Using Orton-Gillingham and Structured Literacy methods, our tutors teach students how to connect sounds, letters, meaning and spelling rules—skills that improve both spelling and writing fluency.
Lessons are multisensory and step-by-step, with clear instruction and lots of positive feedback. We teach explicitly, practice strategically, and celebrate small wins to build lasting confidence.
Parents often tell us their child becomes more willing to write—and finally proud to show what they can do.

"We have appreciated the detailed updates you have provided, your incredible patience, flexibility, and enthusiastic positivity. I know [he] has really enjoyed working with you and we are grateful for his progress, especially in spelling."
